Kindergarten is trying something new this year in the way of homework. Because the curriculum is so demanding, it is important that students get as much practice in certain skill areas as possible. We will be sending home homework binders every Tuesday. They will spend the week and weekend home with you filled with quick practice type pages. On Mondays, the binders should be returned to school so the activities can be switched out for new activities. Kindergartners catch on to things relatively quickly and we do not want them to practice the same skill for months and months. We have LOTS of things to learn this year so we will change out activities each week. Kindergarten teachers appreciate your support and cooperation with this as we can not do our jobs without you! We only have students for seven hours of each day. Where that seems like an eternity to the kids, it's really not that long! And... we don't see them at all on the weekends! That leaves lots of time for quick practicing. We are not encouraging families to force their children to sit for hours more following their busy school day. These activities are to take three to five minutes each! Teachers hope the activities can be easily added to your regular family routines. Maybe one page is after dinner and another is before bed. Then on Wednesdays and Fridays and Sundays you can work on sentences and writing. Math can be Thursdays and Saturdays. Before breakfast, after brushing teeth, before a favorite t.v. show. We hope this binder gives you lots of quick options to help encourage your child's education! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
